This is a garland made of Japanese Chiyogami paper folded into the Japanese (water balloon) style or model of origami. Origami is the art of paper folding. Chiyogami paper is made of a kozo paper with up to 16 silk-screened layers of ink in Japan. The artists at Artisan Party Supply cut the Chiyogami into small squares less than two inches wide to create tiny origami paper. The squares are folded and opened up into little paper boxes or “bubbles”. The paper boxes are strung like beads onto a silk ribbon and sewn with thread into place in the frame.
